At Windmill, we often have the privilege of being (one of) a child’s first experiences in the theatre. So, we want to make it count. We offer a range of opportunities for students and educators to take our stories further throughout the year.
In addition to providing dedicated schools’ performances and pricing for all South Australian seasons, we collaborate with an incredible community of artists, educators and creatives to create free resources that deepen engagement with our work.

Work Experience
Applications for our 2026 Work Experience Program are now open!
Windmill Production Company offers work experience opportunities to South Australian students in Year 10 and 11 each year.
Work experience placements are often planned to coincide with production rehearsals to give students a rich experience of what it’s like to work within a renowned Australian theatre company. Along with learning about each department within the company, students will observe rehearsals and assist with production-specific tasks, reporting to the Associate Producer.
In 2026, Windmill will be taking four students for a week-long placement during the remount of a major theatre work.
Placement weeks:
Monday 17 to Friday 21 August 2026
AND
Monday 24 to Friday 28 August 2026
(two students each week)
Please note: Windmill’s work experience programs are exclusively related to the theatre company and will not include experience within the screen arm of the organisation. Work experience is not available outside of these two date ranges.
Students will be informed of the outcome of their application by the end of Week 10, Term 2 2026.
Applications close 26th June 2026.
Professional Learning
Windmill hosts professional development workshops for educators periodically throughout the year.
Free Seats Program
Windmill’s Free Seats Program provides 15% of seats to every performance season free of charge to South Australian schools ranked 1-4 on the Department for Education’s Index of Disadvantage. This enables us to provide equitable access to the transformative impact that theatre and live performance has on young people.

Access and Inclusion
At Windmill, we want to ensure that theatre remains accessible and caters to the needs of young people from all over South Australia. Access services, including Auslan interpretation and audio description, are available upon request to all schools’ performances.
