Making Lemonade: Developing a new show
We’ve been talking about making a show with our friends the multi-talented Jude Henshall and Ellen Steele for a long time. With our touring and performance activity put on hold due to restrictions relating to COVID-19, we decided to fast-track the creative development for their new work.
New creations by some of favourite artists seemed like a great way to make lemonade.
While we can’t reveal what the show will be about just yet, we can promise that it will have its world premiere in Adelaide in 2021 and that it will be a work for young children and families to enjoy together. We can also promise that it’ll be lateral, funny and a hugely original addition to our repertoire of work.
Ellen and Jude have performed extensively with Windmill Theatre Co in Adelaide, interstate and abroad, and have worked across shows for every age group Windmill cater for. In addition, they’ve performed with some of the nation’s most exciting companies and have been creating original work for years with performance outfit isthisyours?
On the opportunity to create an original work for Windmill, Ellen and Jude said, “We’ve both performed with Windmill for a long time and have a deep affection for both the work and the audiences. To be able to work with a company like this and to create a new show with creatives who we admire so much is a real dream. In these uncertain the times, to have an opportunity like this is really special. We can’t wait to show you what we’re working on.”
Windmill has made the decision that if we can’t perform for you, we’ll make sure we come back strong when it is safe to do so. With exciting new Australian stories that will thrill and bring joy to people of all ages. We can’t wait to bring this new show to the stage and work with these incredible artists as they step into an exciting new phase of their already brilliant careers.
