Ngura Ini Mimili Nya: A Place Called Mimili
This short documentary film charts the story of a group of children from Mimili School in the remote Anangu Pitjantjatjara Lands as they prepare to compete in the annual Ernabella Dance Off.
From the creation of the dance to the road trip to Pukatja and all the excitement of the hotly contested interschool dance competition, this documentary offers a unique insight into life in a remote community.
The creation of the dance, in collaboration with choreographer Felix Kerry, is driven by indigenous themes chosen by the children and the story is told through the eyes of these children, in their own voices.
A collaboration with film maker Simone Mazengarb, this project is one outcome of a multi-faceted three year partnership between Windmill and the Mimili School.
The DVD which also includes supplementary teaching resources is now available. For more information contact Julie Orchard, Windmill Arts Project Manager on (08) 8415 5358.
