Picture Book to Performance
Windmill Performing Arts has established a significant partnership with The Advertiser Little Big Book Club in an exciting literacy initiative.
Over a three-year period, a panel will select a picture book annually to publish. The Advertiser Little Big Book Club will create an online e-book with resources and Windmill will turn the picturebook into a performance for very young children and their families. The aim of this existing collaboration is to develop a state of readers and theatre-goers who are passionate about books and the performing arts.
The first performance experience was a translation of Mike Dumbleton and Craig Smith's picture book CAT into a play by the same name. This debuted July 2007 for sell out seasons in Adelaide and Canberra. It is with much anticipation that we await it's return Adelaide season in 2008.
The second text to be selected for this project is the picture book BOOM BAH! by Phil Cummings and Nina Rycroft. Boom Bah! will premier 2 July at the State Library of South Australia until 19 July, followed by a season in Canberra 21-26 July.
Submission of texts to be considered for the final year of this project will be called for early in 2008. For further information please contact Fiona Lange, Project Manager,
