MINISTER ASSISTING THE PREMIER IN THE ARTS

In 2008, Windmill will enter a new chapter as Australia's flagship performing arts company for children and families with a new Director.

The vision of Windmill's founding Director, Cate Fowler, has successfully established the company as an integral part of the Australian arts landscape, and also as a vibrant part of our community here in South Australia.

Thank you to Cate, the board, staff and artists for your commitment to our children, families and community.

Windmill's achievements are not possible without support from corporate and government partners, benefactors and donors. Their generosity assists the company's artistic accomplishments and supports the Community Program, providing 15% of all tickets free-of-charge to disadvantaged families and schools.

With this solid foundation, the company will now embark upon a new phase with Rosemary Myers, and Windmill's forthcoming creative journey is much anticipated.

After almost seven years it's time for me to say farewell to Windmill Performing Arts. It has been an extraordinary challenge and privilege to work with a number of outstanding artists in introducing a whole new generation of children and families to the power and magic of live performance. I acknowledge the vision of former Arts minister, Diana Laidlaw AM who made the commitment to establish a new company dedicated to the creation of work for children and family audiences. I wholeheartedly thank the Premier, Mike Rann and Minister, John Hill for their ongoing support that has allowed the company to flourish and become an entity of which all South Australians can be proud. To Mem Fox, Windmill's first Patron, a very special vote of thanks. I welcome my successor, Rosemary Myers who will lead the company on the next exciting stage of its journey.

I thank Board members, staff and artists, both past and present whose contribution has been integral to Windmill's growth and success. To our most precious resources, children (and their families), I urge you to continue the journey with Windmill, as without you, the company would not exist.

Rosemary Myers

It is with great excitement that I take up the position of Artistic Director at Windmill Performing Arts in 2008. In its relatively short history Windmill has established itself as a substantial presenter of performances for children and families, making its presence felt in its hometown of Adelaide, across South Australia, nationally and internationally.

I would like to commend the incredible achievements of the Company's inaugural Creative Director Cate Fowler. I look forward to working with all the team and artists to build on her work in the next stage of Windmill's life. I believe these are exciting times for live arts; times when creativity is our most potent capacity for navigating and embracing the modern world. With this in mind I look forward to the fantastic challenge of creating and presenting astonishing and inspiring performances that truly reflect the dynamism and ingenuity that personify our young audiences. I look forward to meeting you in 2008.
