In Development

Mimili

Windmill is working on a long-term project with Rachael Maza (acclaimed director, performer and songwriter), Scott Rankin (writer and social facilitator), Gina Rings (choreographer), professional performers and children, visual artists and members of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara community to create a production focusing on the stories, singing and music of the region.

This project will have two outstanding and significant results. With the federal support of the Department of Education, Science and Technology, resource materials will be generated by both the school and Windmill's Arts Project Manager, which will support an accelerated literacy program (with a strong focus on the arts) in the Mimili community. The increased attendance and retention rate of students will be monitored to gauge the success of the school's involvement alongside the evolution of a major theatrical production.

The latter outcome will extend the community's active participation in the arts. This long and fruitful interaction between a remote indigenous community and professional artists will result in a unique production which is a synthesis of story, history, music, dance and performance. The elements comprising the final production will be of the highest calibre whilst encompassing the truth and humanity of a community expressing its voice through its arts.
